Fool - Poetry Prompt for Poets on the Page.

In honour of the fact that tomorrow is April Fool's Day, I have decided to do today's poetry prompt about the word 'fool'. Write about a time when you felt a fool or when you made someone look foolish or the sort of things you think are foolish or why you think people do foolish things or anything that the word 'fool' inspires you to write.

Most importantly, have fun! It's not a day to be serious!

Today is the last day of the Herstory Mini Poetry Challenge for March. I hope you have had fun exploring the topic of women for yourself, those around you, and in herstory.

Wild Abandon - Poetry Prompt

I believe in the erotic and I believe in it as an enlightening force within our lives as women. I have become clearer about the distinctions between the erotic and other apparently similar forces. We tend to think of the erotic as an easy, tantalizing sexual arousal. I speak of the erotic as the deepest life force, a force which moves us toward living in a fundamental way. And when I say living I mean it as that force which moves us toward what will accomplish real positive change. ~ Audre Lorde

Poetry Prompt:

We haven't had a prompt such as this before, is probably what you are thinking. Now I am not suggesting you write a poem that is x rated. I am suggesting you get in touch with your sensual side, the deep life force which Audre Lorde speaks of above. You can explore what sensuality means to you, or even create a sensual poem. Of course you can explore sensuality in your words, but just remember this is a G/PG site. Here is a poem I wrote years ago and shared in OctPoWriMo and in my book, Dancing within Shadow.

Emotions so full
to overflowing
stomach tightening
goosebumps prickling
butterflies flying
heart quickening
Palms sweating
head dizzying
mouth watering
tongue tasting
scents filling
touching skin
to skin
velvet
thick
warm
hot
sweat dripping
bodies moving
feeling turned
inside out
outside in
fingers twining
pulling
pushing
toes curling
eyes crossing
Mind numbing
mouths opening
to silent screams
soft moans
whimpers
groans
grunting
screaming out

bodies quivering
floating down
slowly moving
tender kisses
softly smiling
hands caressing
beyond reason
beyond doubt

I give the above poem as an example in case you needed one.

Word Prompt: Wild Abandon

Shadow Poetry Type: Licentia Rhyme form/type

Poetry Prompt Wild Self

“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”
― Clarissa Pinkola EstésWomen Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype

Poetry Prompt:

What is your door? Turn on some music and dance into that question, when the music stops sit down and write for five, ten, or thirty minutes.

Word Prompt: Wild Self

Shadow Poetry type: Etheree is a traditional poetry form/type.

Collaborating Women - Poetry Prompt

As some of you may know Tui Snider and I launched our creative collaboration, Wild Woman Waking, this week and the Book Tour Blog Hop is going on now until March 22. Doing a collaborative work can create something more powerful than created alone. I feel that way about this book. I hope you decide to check it out.

This being Women's History Month, women are on my mind all the time, especially of course the women of the past that stood their ground when it wasn't an easy thing to do so.

“A succulent wild woman is one of any age who feels free to fully express herself in every dimension of her life.”
― S.A.R.K.Succulent Wild Woman

Poetry Prompt:

What women do you know that stood up and said, "Enough is Enough!" What women do you know that worked together to create something beautiful for their children and their children's children? Write for ten minutes about women working together. It can be about anything that they came together for whether it was creative, coming to someone's rescue, raising money for a cause, or doing whatever it took to get a law passed. Show me through your poetry about these women.

Word Prompt: Creative Collaboration

Shadow Poetry Type: Line Messaging, an interesting and creative invented poetry form. Hope you try this one, I would certainly like to see what you come up with.

Herstory Poetry Prompt

I know that not all of you are women but all of you know women and come from a long line of women.I hope you have found a way to celebrate the women in your life during this Women's History/Herstory Month. We are going to be celebrating women here on Poets on the Page, all week.

“Be wild; that is how to clear the river. The river does not flow in polluted, we manage that. The river does not dry up, we block it. If we want to allow it its freedom, we have to allow our ideational lives to be let loose, to stream, letting anything come, initially censoring nothing. That is creative life. It is made up of divine paradox. To create one must be willing to be stone stupid, to sit upon a throne on top of a jackass and spill rubies from one’s mouth. Then the river will flow, then we can stand in the stream of it raining down.” ― Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run With The Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman

Poetry Prompt:

Do you have a wild woman in your family? Maybe an aunt, sister, grandmother. Tell us about the wild woman in your family, the one that goes her own way, the one that creates her own path instead of following someone else's.

Word Prompt: Wild Woman

Shadow Poetry type: Loop Poetry - Be wild and try something new!

I am celebrating the launch of my second book, Wild Woman Waking, with a Book blog tour that begins today and continues for two weeks of interviews, reviews and guest posts with some really great women bloggers! You can check it all out on my blog.

Hope you have a great week!

Poetry Prompt - Better Late than Never

Time has been getting away from me lately. I've been forgetting appointment times even though I have them in my calendar. I missed a local event that I wanted to attend because I remembered the date incorrectly. And here it is my day to provide a poetry prompt and I"m late getting it posted because the weekend happened so fast I forgot to write this!

It's true that we can find inspiration anywhere, though, right? George Eliot said, "It's never to late to be what you might have been." I've taken this to heart recently as I've begun exploring artistic avenues that I have previously ignored. At 46 years old, I've taken up painting for the first time and I'm loving it. I believe that I am finally becoming what I might have been.

The Prompt: Think about times that you have been late for something. Perhaps you were late for an important meeting. Or maybe you were late for work or school. Do you know anyone who is chronically late? (I have a friend who will likely be late to her own funeral!) Have you taken up a new hobby or changed careers late in life? Try to capture the emotions and the physical sensations that you associate with being late in your poem this week.

Word Prompt: Late

Suggested Form: Blitz poem (my favorite!)

~Amy McGrath

P.S. We are just a month away from National Poetry Writing Month! Get ready for a poem a day in April!

Share your poetry with us by linking up. Make sure you visit your neighbors one or two before and after. If you are last on the list go back to the beginning of the list. Have fun!
